This modern private self-contained studio Sarah and Matthew have designed “The Cool Down Room NZ”  to cater for motorsports and equestrian enthusiasts coming to the Wairakei and wider Taupo area. They pride themselves in supplying high-quality amenities to provide you with a great place to prepare for events (hopefully racing), or to stay over for a couple of days on your way North or South while touring on your beloved motorised steed. 

However your mode of transport, you can be assured of peace and comfort to relax and recharge in their little slice of paradise, with usually a tui or two in the trees outside. There are some custom-made items as decor in the room, mostly from Matt’s racing “career”, but rest assured, Sarah is doing her best to introduce more motorcycle paraphernalia where possible!

Their large 32sqm private studio room has a King-size very-comfortable bed and your own ensuite. For those who like to mix work with pleasure, there is a desk and office chair available with starlink internet, and a 42" smart TV with Netflix to chill. The kitchenette has a small induction hob, glassware for your post-ride beverages and a quiet fridge that wont keep you awake all night. 

Enjoy a continental breakfast as part of your stay, and expect to find something home-made in the offerings, as Sarah is also a Food Technologist with a bent for preserving what they grow in the garden. 

The room is underfloor heated in the depths of winter (otherwise a heater is provided) and the tiled ensuite has electric underfloor all year round, so despite the name, there are no worries about it being cold here. Outside in your pagoda is a BBQ with grill and hotplate, and a bluetooth speaker/light there for your music. 

The Cool Down Room NZ is located in Wairakei, an ideal spot to break that long ride on the motorbike if you are taking the scenic route North or South. Being on SH5, you can get straight back up to speed as soon as you leave the driveway, heading at 100 kph towards Taupo, Rotorua, Wellington or Auckland (and no worries about leaving early and waking the neighbourhood up either!) Being only 12 minutes from Taupo CBD, you can quickly pop into town for some supplies if needed. 

The room is also only a quick blast to the Taupo International Motorsport Park (8 mins) and Fibre Fresh National Equestrian Centre (6mins) - Sarah might even beat you to the track if she’s there volunteering for an AMCC or VMCC run event. There is plenty of space in our shed to securely store your bike and gear. The driveway is sealed the entire way up, so no worries about sliding up/down, only some loose gravel (on blacktop) in the flat parking area. 

We advise you to stay a couple of days, and enjoy and discover the great riding around the Central North Island and other visitor sites in the area.

Other Notes:  Feel free to wander the garden and orchard areas behind the house next to your room and sample the fruit and/or veges if there is any. The rear of the house is a shared space with us coming to the vege garden/orchard and dogs around etc, but we do try to minimise disturbing guests. Please don't walk around to the front of the house as that is our private area. Leave any gates as you find them, open or closed. Green shed access is only by invitation. The shed can also be used as an undercover area to store bikes overnight safely.
