Meals can be pre-booked

Tucked into Picton’s hillside and recently renovated, The Lower Deck offers a wonderfully comfortable stay for up to 4 guests (2 couples) or the bedroom with a Super King can be configured into two singles (for solo riders).

The Lower Deck is located on a quiet residential street just off the main route, and they are only a 3 minute ride from the ferry making it the perfect place for a stay before or after getting on the ferry between the North and South Islands of New Zealand.

Picton is beautiful with stunning rides right from the garage. Choices include up along the Queen Charlotte Drive to Havelock and back through Blenheim, or through vineyards and mountains to Nelson or the coastal road to Christchurch.

Opinions differ as to which is the best but none should be missed.  Another road to absolutely not miss is from Picton down to Hamner Springs, where you can enjoy a soak in one of the natural hot springs while reflecting on just how beautiful the ride was to get there and when you will come back.

Paul and Alison are happy to help plan your visit or supply meals for when you arrive if needed.  There are also beautiful walks along the coast or through native bush.  JetSkis to hire and boat trips into the amazing Sounds for some of the best views in the world so you can also have a day off the bike.

There are great pubs, cafe’s and restaurants and a good selection of local shops all within strolling distance and of course, Picton sits in the world famous Marlborough vineyard district so why not stay an extra day and take a wine tour while you are here.

Rates: $240 per night for 4 people. Contact Alison directly if you are travelling solo or if there is less than 4 people.

MEET YOUR HOSTS

Paul & Alison

Bikes should have brought your hosts together but it didn’t quite happen like that but their bikes came with us when they moved to NZ  in 2021 from the UK. After 5 years in Auckland Paul and Alison moved to Picton in 2026 and created The Lower Deck so that they could host people wanting to enjoy visiting and riding in beautiful Marlborough.

Paul and Alison started life on opposite sides of the world, coincidentally both riding a white Yamaha at one stage (RD350 and DT175) before Paul decided to travel a while and ended up working in the same hotel as Alison in York, North Yorkshire but that didn’t bring them together either, nor did Alison working with Paul’s Aunt or living in the same, very small town for ten years.  When Alison did meet Paul was ‘between bikes’ and Alisons dream of taking her full license had long been dormant so it took them a while to rectify the situation. Alison got her full license in 2018 and since then they have loved riding spectacular roads on both sides of the world.

Now both Alison and Paul are motorcyclist enthusiasts, their joint passion is hosting fellow motorcyclists and sharing the tracks and rides around the Picton and Marlborough area so, book with them today.
