This great “motorcycle accommodation” called Southern Cross Lodge is located in Methven, the alpine town linked to Mt Hutt Ski Field, being just over an hour’s drive from Christchurch.
Southern Cross Lodge offers a total of 49 rooms including Studio Rooms (twin or super king), Lodge Rooms (twin or super king) and Lodge Family Rooms (super king with bunks). All their rooms feature an ensuite, TV, a heater and receive daily service checks.
They pride themselves on being “motorcycle friendly” and “family friendly” and cater for a wide range of group bookings including motorcycle groups, school, business, community and social groups.
Southern Cross Lodge facilities include a cosy lounge and bar with fireplace (great to sit in front of and reminisce about the day’s riding or to even dry your riding boots in front of); pool tables, a common/function/training room, large indoor BBQ and an outdoor pool and spa.
Their accommodation is conveniently located a short 5 minute walk from Methven town centre where there is a wide range of great eateries. It is also across the road from New Zealand’s newest hot pools, Opuke Thermal Pool & Spa, a perfect place to soak those weary riding bones at a day’s end. As their guests you can receive a 10% discount for the pools, T&Cs apply. Just ask Michelle or Gordy about them.
When you stay with Southern Cross Lodge you will receive a continental breakfast which is included in your room rate. If you are after a cooked breakfast, they have some great recommendations for you to try out in the centre of Methven or if you are part of a riding group, they may be able to offer you a cooked breakfast as part of your booking (especially if you are staying for more than one night). So please enquire with Michelle or Gordy if you are travelling as a group and require meals.

Whilst Dave Dynes is the owner of Southern Cross Lodge and residential handyman, to anyone that meets Dave whilst in Methven know he wears many hats but in his off time he can be found providing tips and advice on things to do in the region as well as solving the world’s problems.
He has entrusted Michelle and Gordy to manage Southern Cross Lodge who ensure they make you feel at home, when away from home. Both Michelle and Gordy are keen to catch up on the adventures their guests have had for the day. Being a motorcyclist himself, Gordy certainly is aware of what “motorcycle friendly” looks and feels like!!

Southern Cross Lodge features a range of individually-designed rooms all with access to the bar, lounge, sunny patios and barbecue facilities.
After a ride around this amazing region, you can cosy up to their log fire in winter, and in the warmer months, splash and unwind in their pool and gardens.
For groups, it is best for you to have a look at their website to select the ideal room to meet you or your group’s needs or phone Michelle or Gordy to discuss your specific needs.
STUDIO ROOMS:
Recharge and unwind in one their studio rooms, which are ideal if traveling alone or with one other.
These rooms offer a cosy and compact space with an ensuite, share twin or a super king bed configuration and come with either mountain or courtyard views.

LODGE ROOMS:
The Lodge Rooms offer a spacious area with an ensuite, the option of share twin or a super king bed configuration and come with either a courtyard or carpark view.
Slightly larger in size to the Studio rooms and perfect for longer stays.

FAMILY ROOMS:
The Lodge Family Rooms are designed to cater for 2 Adults / 2 Children, 3 Children or 4 Children and come with two different options in terms of layout.
There is an option for interconnecting rooms where each room has their own bathroom. 1 room has a king bed and the other room three single beds. Their largest yet spacious family room boasts a king bed, 2 single beds and a set of bunks plus an ensuite. (which is ideal for a group of motorcyclists who don’t mind sharing).
If you require just the one family room and a cosier feel these rooms feature a super king bed, a set of bunks and an ensuite.

These rooms offer a view of either the courtyard or of our back lawn (where the local playground is accessible).
